Welcome to the Year of Harmony, a nationwide initiative by the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) aimed at bringing the magic of barbershop singing into local communities across the UK. This year, we’re inviting our member choirs and quartets to collaborate with other musical groups, schools, and community organisations to spread the joy of harmony.
Why Barbershop?
Barbershop singing is more than just music – it’s about creating rich, four-part harmony with your voice, sharing in camaraderie, and making lifelong memories with others. Whether you’re an experienced singer or a complete beginner, barbershop is accessible to all, with no need for formal musical training. It’s a tradition that brings people together, connecting generations through the power of song.
What’s Happening in the Year of Harmony?
Throughout the year, barbershop choruses and quartets across the country will be hosting special community outreach events, including:
- Joint Performances: Collaborative concerts with local choirs, instrumental groups, and schools.
- Workshops & Sing-Alongs: Interactive sessions where anyone can experience the thrill of singing in harmony.
- Open Rehearsals: Step into a rehearsal and see what goes into making those beautiful chords ring!

The Year of Harmony is open to everyone! Whether you’re interested in singing or simply want to enjoy the music, there are plenty of ways to join in:

- Try Singing for Yourself: Many of our workshops are designed for beginners – no prior experience required! You’ll learn the basics of barbershop singing in a fun, relaxed environment.
